Luckily, there are ways to fix some of these plumbing problems on your own without calling for backup from your local plumber. The good news with a municipal supply is that the issue can be quickly resolved.

Clogged Water Heater Piping Can Reduce Water Pressure

Generally, galvanized steel lines will start to corrode after about 20 years. Copper pipes last for over 50 years, while brass pipes are fine for about 40 to 70 years. If the pipes in the home are approaching the end of their life, then it may be time to replace the water lines before the pipes start to leak. In some cases, low water pressure can be caused by the water supplier.

Step 6: Check Your Water Heater

These are usually located close to taps and other water outlets, and there is also a pressure release valve and a main water value that can become lodged half open as well. An easy fix is to see if the problem is coming from a shower head that has too much build-up on it. This is a great place to start if you notice low water pressure in the shower but not in other areas of your home like the kitchen sink. Try attaching a plastic bag filled with vinegar to your shower head and let it soak for 1 hour. First, it’s important to determine if your low water pressure could stem from your water source. Homeowners in rural areas who get water from a private well may have different reasons for low water pressure than someone whose water comes from a municipality.

How to diagnose water pressure issue?

If every faucet has the same problem, it could be the corrosion of your pipes. If you see rusty valves in your radiator, you can try to add a magnetic filter, but that cannot take back the existing damage. These 5 questions cover the most common reasons for water pressure suddenly decreasing. Let’s go through each one and learn how these things can affect you. 'If you don’t have access to a pressure gauge, you can simply turn your shower on at full blast and let it run for about a minute.

Not only will they get your water flowing again, but they can also verify that no other issues are at play. This is probably also an issue of volume, and it’s likely not just low water pressure in the shower only, but throughout the house as well. When a toilet flushes, it draws cold water from the house’s plumbing to refill the tank.

While high water pressure can seem like a good thing, if the water pressure is too high it can damage the faucets, showerheads, appliances, and water lines. With this in mind, homes located in areas with high water pressure will typically have a pressure regulator installed immediately after the main shutoff valve. The main valve isn't the only valve that can affect the water pressure for the entire home. In many houses, there is a water meter located right after the main valve. This is used by the local utility to measure the water use for the home. Generally, there will be a water meter isolation valve installed after the water meter.

A build-up of mineral deposits, including rust, limestone or sediment, can obstruct the fixture and prevent water from flowing freely. This not only diminishes water pressure but can also impact the quality of the water that comes out. This may be the case if you notice the low water pressure in just one or two fixtures. Similarly, showerheads can get clogged with debris, and even dishwasher inlet hoses can become blocked.

You should also remove any aerators and similarly clean them thoroughly with vinegar or a decalcifying solution. Along with running his own contracting company, he has worked as a building mechanic and a carpenter. His work spanned industrial, commercial and residential construction projects.

That’s why the 40 to 60 psi range is considered to be good water pressure for a home. Most homeowners prefer something in the middle, right around 50 psi. This level of pressure ensures comfort and effectiveness for showering, watering, and washing. Also, if all of the above efforts failed, it’s time to call in the pros. Plumbers can locate the cause of low water pressure quickly and usually have all the tools, parts and knowledge to repair it quickly.

Identify and fix low water pressure in your shower

If you are experiencing low water pressure, it is best to call a professional plumber to diagnose and fix the problem. In certain households, turning on multiple water sources at once can overwhelm your plumbing system. If your shower pressure is low or you have a kitchen sink with low water pressure only some of the time and not all the time, it could be that there’s too much demand. Talk with your family members to see if you can reduce the demand for water supplies at once.

Depending on which faucets are affected, check your valves first to ensure they are in the open position. If only one faucet is impacted, look at the shut-off valve for that faucet. If every faucet has low pressure, check the main shut-off valve in your home. If the main valve is fine, your pressure-reducing valve (PRV) might be the problem, but this will require a visit from your plumber to address it. To figure out whether your problem requires the help of a professional, work through the following steps. Depending on the time of day that you experience low water pressure, there may be a higher than average need for water in your home.

Calculate the Showerhead's Flow Rate

If you have added any new plumbing fixtures, the old branch lines may be too small. So, even though corrosion is not an issue in this case, you could still experience the same effect on your water pressure. The narrow interior of the line restricts the amount of water flowing through.

If you’re in that boat and your home’s water pressure is too low, you should call that private entity. Plenty of things can go wrong between the pump house or tower and your home. For instance, a test the company performed might have kicked up sediment between the distribution line under the street and your home, negatively affecting your water pressure.

Can a Plumber Fix Low Water Pressure?

If nothing above helped, it's probably time to call in a licensed plumber and see if you have any blockages or leaks in your pipes. At some point, we’ve all taken that perfect hot shower that you never want to end. The temperature is just right, no one is nagging you, and the water pressure is perfect. On the other hand, there’s very little that is more frustrating than when there’s not enough pressure coming from your showerhead to get the conditioner out of your hair. A variety of methods can be used to clean sludge out of pipes, including manual cleaning, chemical cleaning, high-pressure water jetting and robotic cleaning. The cost of increasing water pressure can vary depending on the cause and extent of the issue.

How to fix low water pressure in a shower

If the water pressure issue is localized to one tap, check the shutoff valves there, usually located under the sink. A water leak in your pipes can be the cause of many plumbing issues, including low hot water pressure. This is because the water isn’t flowing all the way to its destination; it leaks out while on the way there. If you're only experiencing low hot water pressure, it could be due to water heater issues, including clogs which make it unable to produce enough hot water for your needs. Unless you notice that the stream or water coming from your shower or sink doesn’t feel strong enough, your water pressure is probably just fine.

Sometimes, the problem is limited to certain spaces or fixtures due to a single shut-off valve. Having good water pressure is important not only for the quality of your morning shower; it can actually preserve the plumbing system in your house. Unfortunately, low water pressure is a common problem in many homes. Screw the test gauge onto the spigot ensuring that the face of the gauge is visible. This will indicate the amount of pressure coming into the home from the city or well.

water pressure low in house suddenly

If you have low water pressure in your house, it can be a real hassle. There’s also the possibility of your water heater failing to keep up with the demand because it is getting old. There could also be mineral deposits inside the tank lowering its efficiency. If this is the case, switching to soft water is the way to go. Low water pressure can be caused by several issues—some more serious than others. When the water in your home stops working, it’s hard not to notice.

If all the homes on your block have low pressure, the water supplier is usually at fault. You can often call the customer service line to see what is causing the low pressure and when the problem will be fixed. Find out if they’re experiencing similar water pressure issues. If so, it may be a problem with the water main or your water supplier that you might just need to wait out. The higher the restriction, the more time the water takes to pass through the filtering stage, thus affecting water pressure and flow. If your home has low water pressure, it could be that you just need to set your water regulator to a higher setting.

However, hard water is not the only issue that can impact the rate of debris buildup. Additionally, if your plumbing system is regularly left sitting for weeks or months at a time without use, debris will naturally settle and accumulate. Some folks pay private companies to supply their homes with water.

Contact a plumber to replace the faulty regulator and restore normal water pressure to the home. A test gauge is a simple device that can attach directly to the hose spigot on the outside of the home. After screwing the test gauge onto the spigot, turn the valve on and check the reading. This will indicate the current water pressure at the hose spigot, which is typically enough to confirm a water pressure issue for the home. What if your hot water is weak, but your cold water is strong?

Cold water usually comes from the water main, while the hot water comes from the cylinder you have at home. You can fix this by adjusting your boiler settings or cycling the water through your system. You can read more how to check the pressure of your boiler here. If you do not want to use a water pressure gauge, try filling up a bucket. Water flow is a strong indicator of the pressure in your home. If you are new to a neighbourhood or home and the pressure is weaker than what you are used to, you need to test it.

Hard water is not necessarily bad, but they come with their challenges. Scale build-up can happen to any item or appliance that uses water regularly. It is important to note that the cost of fixing low water pressure will depend on the cause of the issue. In some cases, fixing low water pressure may be a simple and inexpensive process.

Replacing old, worn, or dated hardware with some new modern pulls will make the kitchen feel fancy. If you’re working with a dated kitchen, a fresh coat of paint can work wonders to bring it into the 21st century on a budget. Even if the homeowner doesn’t want to tackle the project themself, hiring a professional to spray them will still be a fraction of the cost of replacing them. Virtually stage a bedroom as a home office to add to your Zillow listing.

Remove and/or rent furniture.

It takes a lot of work to get your home staged like it’s waiting for it’s department store furniture catalog photo shoot. The truth is that empty homes are the most in need of at least some staging—because vacant homes take longer to sell and may even sell for less money than an occupied, unstaged home. You can add in small moments of vibrant hues by creating interesting vignettes on walls or table tops. As an example, in a room with gray walls and neutral flooring, you might place a midnight blue sofa, decorated with two or three yellow throw pillows.

Why use home staging to sell a house?

Staging a house is the process of strategically arranging furnishings and decor to make a house look its best while selling. This may involve paring down and refreshing your own belongings, or moving all of your own stuff out and renting furniture and decor. If you decide to purchase furniture and décor for your home, you’ll need to factor in the cost of buying and then storing or selling the items after you’ve sold your home. If the unit lacks natural light, use a semi-gloss or gloss paint so the light reflects throughout the room. One of the easiest facelifts for any property is adding a new coat of paint. Not only does it cover up any knicks or holes left by previous tenants, but it also masks odors that have seeped into the walls.

We walk through the home together and I will give them directions on what should be done. Read through almost any home staging post on the web, and you’ll find that real estate agents and professional stagers recommend decluttering and depersonalizing a home. In fact, top agents with HomeLight estimate decluttering can add an average $8,000 in resale value. Potential buyers will likely feel the same way about custom paint colors.

The decision of whether to stage your home depends on a variety of factors. This can be a significant expense, especially if you hire a professional service. Another thing to keep in mind is that, even if you hire a professional staging service, you may not need to stage every room in your home. Making repairs and updates to your home will also add to the cost of home staging. The home staging cost will depend on the scope of the work that needs to be done.

Home Staging Tips FAQ

The cost of home staging varies depending on the scope of work that needs to be done. The cost also depends on whether you rent or purchase furniture and décor for your home. A typical home staging can cost anywhere between $1,000 and $2,000, with the national average cost being $1,444. While trying to appeal to a wide variety of tastes, it's easy to go too far and end up with a boring space. "The goal is to make the design neutral but with personality," says Bertrand.

You may or may not have the time or money to stage every bedroom, but staging the master is an absolute must. This is the place where your buyers will rest their weary heads after working hard to pay the mortgage, so you need the room to look like a restful retreat. Texture and color spell comfort in the living room when used wisely—as long as you don’t go crazy with wild patterns, neon colors, or blinged out textures.

The more items you have in your closets, the less likely it will appear that you have storage space for the potential buyer to work with. Do some rearranging to show off the amount of closet and storage space you have in your home. The outside of your home is the first thing potential buyers will see.

To compare moving quotes online, simply give us your move details and contact information, and we’ll send you moving quotes from trustworthy interstate moving companies. From there, you can compare long-distance moving quotes and moving services to find the right moving company for your needs. For smaller homes, however, setting the table is not necessary.

I promise, this one trick will make your homeowner reconsider moving once you expose their now usable counter space. And future buyers will be able to imagine themselves entertaining in the home, too. When you’re staging a home, always remember that you are presenting your buyer with a fantasy of what their home could be, not how they might actually live. Even if they end up throwing an exercise bike in the living room and a work area in the dining room the first week they move in, always stage your rooms with one purpose and one purpose only. While home staging might help you sell your house faster, it requires a significant upfront cost. And if your home ends up sitting longer on the market than anticipated, the cost of rental furniture can grow beyond your planned budget.

But they’re probably not going to fall in love with walls and appliances that look well used by your family. Home staging can be a great way to boost the value of your home. However, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of home staging before you decide. Consider the home staging cost, time commitment, and housing market before you decide whether to stage your home. By doing these things, you can make the best decision for your situation and ensure that you get the most out of home staging.

There is a very good reason why almost every high-end home you see on Zillow is staged with oversized art and fashion books and cool pieces of art. They help build the fantasy that people looking at the home imagine for themselves. Find coffee table books at used bookstores or even your local thrift store. It doesn’t have to be super expensive to look great in your staged home. Large pieces of furniture like bookcases can take up the real estate in a room and make it feel cramped. Using floating shelves gives you space to add interest or accessories without taking up floor space.

8 Common Home Staging Mistakes to Avoid, According to the Pros

staging a house

I've been planning to sell my house and I've been searching for ways on how to increase my chance. I'll keep in mind to consider replacing old dark curtains with newer and lighter colors to brighten up the room; maybe it's best if I'll just hire a home staging service. If you can’t decide on your own, ask your Realtor for suggestions as he or she knows the hyper-local market, or hire a professional stager to pay you a consultation-only visit. But it’ll feel like more work trying to keep it clean and staged if you’re still living in the property. Homeowners who’ve moved out before they’re ready to sell sometimes think that staging isn’t an issue or an option because the house is already vacant. There’s no need to fear that the house will appear cramped or cluttered.

Freshen up your cabinet paint and update the hardware to make an outdated kitchen look new again. A vase of fresh flowers or a small stack of cookbooks is enough to make the kitchen feel lived in, but clean. 'This timeless expression is applicable to selling your home,' says Alex Willcocks, managing director of London-based Burbeck Interiors.

Upgrade the curb appeal

If your house is in good shape and your furniture fashionable, you may just need to pay a pro to rearrange the layout and declutter. If the house is empty or your furniture is stuck in 1982, a professional stager will recommend you rent furniture. Empty houses may not seem as warm and inviting, and can wrongly convey the notion that the house has been lingering on the market.

Don't forget to stage the back yard

“Dust all ceiling fans, clean inside the refrigerator and oven, clean glass and windows,” DeMarta says. “Air filters should be replaced every one to three months, and especially before you list a home to ensure clean air,” DeMarta says. “Using white with black accents allows for a fresh clean look,” says Sandra Mac Adam, a Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Registry in Temecula, California. Even if the buyer doesn’t want to use the room for the same purpose, the important thing is for them to see that every inch of the home is usable space.

Work on your home’s curb appeal.

Cleaning the kitchen, with all the greasy residue, mystery food in the cupboards and a rarely-cleaned oven will take time and planning to accomplish. If you’re not hiring a professional home stager, look at what the others are doing with their living rooms in terms of colors and the layout. You can find a wealth of information online — blogs, social media (Instagram and Pinterest are among the most visual platforms), magazines, etc.

Understanding Home Staging & Associated Costs

Presenting a thoroughly clean space can do a lot for your selling prospects, even if you don’t have the means to implement other home staging tips. If you’re able to, get professional cleaners to do the dirty work. Once you’ve decluttered and removed personal items and decor that may not appeal to buyers, your home may feel pretty sparse. Move around art and color-coordinated throw pillows or blankets to bring new color to the various rooms of your home.

It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating an atmosphere that screams ‘home’ to everyone who walks in. Maximize a room's natural light with window treatments that let in plenty of it. A simple way to boost brightness is to pay attention to curtain placement. Buyers love "bright and airy," so having lots of lighting in a home is key. "Thinking about lighting is especially important in older homes that don't have canned lighting," says Bertrand.

Most new homeowners want to tackle those projects anyway to make the home their own. So, there’s no need to do anything more than a little spruce up before selling the home. The simple fixes in this article are more than enough to get the home sold quickly. I had my favorite photography company, J Beard Graphics, virtually paint the walls to a more neutral color, Agreeable Gray—the best color for walls. I placed a few photos with the virtually painted walls in the MLS listing and had an offer accepted within three days.

You want to allow potential buyers to see themselves in the room, not your client (or your client’s kiddos). Keep the colored accent wall, but remove the stencils, name signs, and any added colors. If the wall is painted in multiple colors, it’s best to repaint it with a solid color instead. You don’t have to be a professional decorator to stage your home and make an impact on potential buyers. You can make some simple changes, work with the furniture you have available, and create a clean and inviting house that shows well.

Keep in mind you will also need to store your belongings somewhere else if you don’t have another place lined up yet. That means additional storage fees on top of the staging, and maybe rent payments, too. The cost of staging a home depends on a few factors, including where you live, the size of the home, how long it needs to be staged and the extent of the staging. In some cases, you may be able to sell your home without staging it. Finally, you’ll need to weigh the pros and cons of home staging.

The cost varies depending on how you decide to go about it and the extent of what needs to be done. You can opt to stage the home yourself, hire a professional, or use a virtual home staging service. If you want your rental unit to be generating income as quickly as possible, you’re better off taking the time and money to stage it. Staging a home can decrease the amount of time a home is listed. Staged homes tend to sell 88% faster than unstaged homes, which suggests a similar pattern would exist for rentals. The light your house gets from the sun makes any room brighter and more spacious, and makes the potential buyer happier.

Typically, just two items looks like something went missing, while more than three just looks cluttered. It might be a color story, such as a series of identical vases in similar hues, shifting from deep peacock green up to pale mint. It could be a style story, such as a nautical lamp, paired with a driftwood candle holder and a bowl of seashells. It could even be a size story, like a wall arrangement of a large mirror, a medium-sized canvas painting, and a slightly smaller framed landscape photograph.

You only get one shot at making that all-important first impression with a potential buyer. There are many ways to stage a home that will likely help you sell it faster and at a better price. But whatever step you take, keep in mind that you’re doing so to make the visitor feel at home. Home staging can be a significant time commitment, especially if you do the work yourself. The amount of time it takes to stage your home will depend on the size and condition of your home. In general, it’s best to allow at least two weeks for home staging.

A renovation job almost always costs more than what is budgeted and takes longer to complete than estimated. Let your clients know that big renovation projects should be left for the new homeowner after the sale. All the hard work you put in to get the home show-ready will be for nothing if the pets overwhelm the home. Since the front door will be the first impression buyers get when they step out of the car, staging the front entrance is crucial. A few potted plants, a chair and cafe table if there’s a porch, or maybe even sconce lighting, and you can easily make a front entrance much more inviting. Since most primary bedrooms have the extra space, try adding a seating area when staging the room.

Any distractions a seller leaves in the home have the potential to throw buyers off or overshadow the best attributes of the listing, even if the experience is positive. For example, I visited a home on our MLS tour once that had the coolest music room I’ve ever seen. There were pictures of famous people on the walls, presumably with the homeowner, an upright bass, an organ, music on a stand, and a harp.

It’s also time to get rid of things you no longer need—like the expired food in the back of the cabinets and the clothes and toys that the kids have long since outgrown. According to the 2023 NAR report, the most common rooms that are staged are the living room (91%), kitchen (81%), primary bedroom (81%), and dining room (69%). When dealing with such a significant financial transaction as selling a home, you don’t want to settle for a lower selling price or a longer marketing period than you have to. Decorating is about personal style, while staging makes your home appealing to the largest pool of buyers. When Luz says she wants to wait a bit until she figures out what she wants, Eda tells her to take however long she needs. Initially, Eda took an interest in Luz purely for her human background (because actually knowing what she was selling upped her prices). However, since she has been living with her she has grown to accept her as part of her circle. Eda found it amusing that someone like Luz would not only look up to her, but also openly want to learn from her. In "Witches Before Wizards", Eda did not seem to have any interest in teaching Luz about magic and only wanted to have her around to help with chores and make deliveries. Like with King, Eda cares deeply about Luz's well-being and regards the young human as her own child.

A crumbling stone tower with orange moss growing on it is located to the rear left of the house.

While she sets up the spell, Luz asks Eda why she's called the Owl Lady, which Eda claims is thanks to her wisdom. As the barrier spell is rather exhausting, Eda goes off to nap but is persuaded to teach Luz magic when she bribes her with a sparkly pen. She explains that witches use magical bile to cast spells, which Luz can't do though she does mention another method ancient witches have.

Confused by a human wanting to learn magic, but intrigued with being able to teach someone something her own way that was not repressive like the Emperor's Coven, Eda took on the challenge. At first, Eda did not seem to take her job as a teacher too seriously as she mostly had Luz perform simple chores for her such as delivering spells and potions to some of her clients while also trying to deter her from wanting to attend Hexside. She eventually loosens up when she realizes how important learning magic is to Luz and witnesses her using glyphs to perform spells, which she had not seen anyone do in years. Due to being on opposing sides of Belos' laws, Kikimora has been an occasional enemy for Eda, with both sharing a mutual loathing of each other. Like with all members of the Emperor's Coven, Eda possesses virtually no respect for Kikimora due to her loyalty to Belos and considers her to be among the worst of the emperor's followers due to her apathetic and power-hungry nature. In turn, Kikimora looks down on Eda in contempt for her status as a wild witch, viewing her as a lowly criminal and cretin.

However, while having a conversation with Hooty, Eda realizes that her beef with Hexside is a personal matter, and that Luz deserves a chance to form her own conclusions on the matter. Hooty reminds Eda that she taught him, and upon seeing Hooty's eccentric behavior, Eda decides to enroll her apprentice in Hexside. Later, Eda walks into the office of Principal Bump in order to get the ban lifted. Bump is surprisingly open to the idea of having a human transfer student, but before he can officially enroll her, Eda has to answer for all the troubles she caused during her years at Hexside.

Television alone cannot make the world a better place, especially for the young people directly affected by the right-wing crusade against the queer and trans community. But these young audiences are the ones that most need to see that their stories matter. And they should be able to see themselves as the heroes in these stories without having to compromise who they are. When forced to attend IFWOT, facing expulsion if she failed to come back with a ribbon, she met Bard Student named Raine Whispers, who helped her with the challenges. The exam proctor, Terra Snapdragon, was unimpressed with the challenges of IFWOT and added one final challenge, a game of Covens and Wilds. Raine was assigned as a "Wild Witch" while Eda was a "Coven Witch", forcing the two to be on opposing teams.

During the 4-year time skip, the Owl House was cleaned up and Raine moved in.[1] Eda, King, Lilith, Camila, and others held a belated quinceañera for Luz because she has spent three years helping rebuild the Isles. The Collector creates a light show for everyone to enjoy and they all give a final goodbye. Months later, after returning from the Human Realm, Luz, Willow, Gus, Amity, Hunter, and Camila Noceda arrived at the Owl House and find it still abandoned and covered in graffiti. They went there for a while, Luz rested in Eda's nest, Hunter stood outside, while Camila spoke with Gus and Willow for some advice, she needs to help Luz stop making a bad decision. As the duo shared a talk, Hunter called out to them that he saw Eda and King. As Eda herself puts it, the Owl House is where she hides away from the pressures of modern life, cops, and ex‐boyfriends.

Eda started taking an elixir on a daily basis to quell the curse, but she soon became distant from Lilith who joined the Emperor's Coven. Eda became an outlaw and started performing "wild" magic to prove that covens were unnecessary. The curse further resulted in Eda becoming noticeably more aged, though still rather attractive. She started living in the titular Owl House, which encompassed the house demon Hooty, and made friends with King a diminutive being who claims to be the king of demons.

Raine lasted the longest of the Wild Witches, and when they got cornered, Eda betrayed her teammates, leaving the two friends to face off against each other. However, instead of attacking each other, Raine and Eda cooperated to launch an attack on Terra instead. Unexpectedly, Terra was amused by their behavior, but she still didn't give any ribbons to the students. However, she also promised to put in a good word for both Eda and Bump, allowing Eda to remain at Hexside and Bump to keep his job as vice principal.

As things die down, Luz watches as Belos reverts back to Philip and he supposedly thanks her for curing him of his curse. As it rains and he starts to melt, she stays silent as he becomes nothing and she, Raine, and King stomp Belos to death. After pausing to take everything in, and Luz reverts to her normal form, the four go back to the Owl House. She greets Camila, who pulls her in for a hug, and watches as Hooty is returned to normal.

Hooty

Forced to clean up the messes she left decades ago, Eda considers giving up, but ultimately doesn't; she continues to finish the work Bump assigns her, knowing that Luz will enjoy Hexside. Eda is selling human treasures while Luz reads King contents from The Good Witch Azura; she claims that the book's flowery language is driving away the customers, but Luz points out that there are no customers nor other stands to begin with. The lack of customers and other stands is because of the annual covention, which showcases the various covens witches can join. Just like her thoughts on magic schools, Eda does not have a high opinion on covens and has not been to a covention since she was very young. However, she reluctantly gives in when Luz and King torment her by reading The Good Witch Azura aloud.

After Eda was captured and sentenced to petrification by Belos, Kikimora served as her executioner, having personally activated the spell that nearly turned her to stone permanently, had it not been for Luz's timely arrival. Eda holds a grudge towards Kikimora for this, which only grew as she came to occasionally cause trouble for both her and Luz, first at Latissa and later at Eclipse Lake. During the latter encounter, however, Eda expressed some pity for Kikimora's declining sanity, though she permanently abandoned these sympathies after learning how her actions nearly resulted in Amity getting killed.

While Raine works undercover after this, Eda worries about them and sends a private investigator to check up on them. In "Agony of a Witch", thinking she will turn into the Owl Beast permanently, Eda reminds Luz to watch over King, along with remembering to feed Hooty while she is gone. This suggests that Eda secretly does care about Hooty despite appearing to be annoyed at him. Be that as it may, she admits that while Hooty can be a pain sometimes, he still digs his way into her heart.

Preparing for the Day of Unity

On the day of the Bonesborough Brawl, Eda notices that Luz is acting stranger than usual, but does not pry. At the brawl, she sees Warden Wrath and, believing he might know something about Raine, makes a Blabber Serum to get him to reveal what is happening with them. However, she struggles without magic, until Edric arrives, and using a combination of illusion and beast keeping magic, helps her and King gather the ingredients. Things go smoothly until Edric adds fire bee honey to the potion and ends up mutating Wrath. Eda and Luz use ice glyphs to change Wrath back, and as soon as he is back to normal, Eda demands Wrath tell her about Raine and the Day of Unity. While he knows nothing about Raine, Wrath does mention rumors regarding the Day of Unity being a front for something bad.

King once again tries to tell Eda something, but Eda tells him to tell her once he wins the race. The contestants will be flying down the right arm to the Cubital Valley, using speed, cunning, and magic to race to the checkpoint and back to the finish line. The first one to reach the finish will be declared the winner, get their name etched on the Cup of Ephemeral Glory, and receive an on-camera interview seen by everyone watching across the Isles. Soon after the race begins, Raine calls for Eda's help, saying that the BATs got a tip about another raid.

Once Eda accepts the curse as a part of her and cooperates with the beast, she can transform into Harpy Eda, a hybrid form that combines the Owl Beast's power with Eda's wit. In order to transform, she makes a deal with the Owl Beast which, on Eda's end, involves eating voles for the Owl Beast. Much like with Luz, Eda seems to garner responsibility for King's well-being and genuinely cares for him like a child or pet and is shown holding him much like an infant. Eda tends to "look down" on King, both figuratively and literally, and sometimes questions his personal knowledge.

Eda comments that King in particular has it easy, as he is often pampered like a child. In order to resolve the disagreement, Eda uses a body swap spell to change her body with King's, Luz's with her own, and King with Luz's. Eda then makes a deal with both King and Luz; whoever has the easiest day does not have to clean Hooty. Eda is described as the sort of teacher that would not only throw someone into the deep end, but also set the entire body of water on fire. Eda has an odd view of how a good apprentice should act; she is very proud of Luz for getting her face on a "wanted" poster for the first time, reacting the same way when Luz convinces her to teach new spells by appealing to her vanity. Confident and sassy, Eda is best described as rebellious, with Luz calling her "surprisingly foxy for her age".

At the meeting, after Eda gives them maps of Bonesborough, Raine tells the group that Belos wants wild witches in a coven before the Day of Unity, as he's stealing magic for some unknown reason. With Eda's help and insight, they rescue more wild witches from the emperor's guards and guide them outside Bonesborough, as Belos has less reach outside cities. By morning, they return to their hideout, exhausted, but proud to have helped a lot of people. However, Raine draws a Spell Circle and magically poofs up her bell cittern, and convinces her to play, so she plays the song Raine taught her - Raine's Rhapsody. But like before, her performance causes everything around her to shrivel and die, which interests Raine. Eda jokes that, with this side effect, the song is more like Eda's Requiem now, and she departs.

Intrigued with her "potential customer", Eda introduced herself to the young naive girl and took her back home when the authorities arrived to shut down her stand. Eda immediately saw potential to use Luz to her advantage by having her retrieve a small trinket that had belonged to King from the clutches of Warden Wrath and his Conformatroium. Afterwards, Eda was surprised to hear that not only did Luz want to stay, but she also wanted to learn from her.

On the day of the Gland Prix, King once again tries to tell Eda something, but she tells him to inform her after the race ends. However, the raid was a trap set up by Head Witches Darius Deamonne and Eberwolf, and with three of the BATs captured, Eda and Raine are forced to hide. The two witches manage to hide and distract their pursuers long enough for Raine to set up a plan; the Day of Unity requires all nine Head Witches, and Raine proposes that they take out both Eberwolf and Darius to impede Emperor Belos' plans. To achieve this, Raine weaponizes Eda's curse by playing a duet with her, causing everything around them, including themselves, to shrivel and die. Both witches intend to sacrifice themselves to stop the Emperor's plans, but once a photo of Eda with Luz and King flies out of her hair, Raine stops playing and questions if Eda has kids. They realize that Eda is running away from Luz and King, but just as she told them to give their problems a whack in the face, Raine advises her to not give up so easily, adding that both Luz and King still need her.

Luckily, Lilith, seeing the error of her ways, and Luz and King team up to rescue her from Emperor Belos and stop her execution. They succeed and Belos chooses to spare them, claiming that the Isles told him to. Lilith uses her magic to share the curse with her, slightly restoring her to normal. Eda realizes that her and Lilith's powers have diminished, now knows that she will relearn her magic, now that she is closer to Luz.

How Some Common Medications Can Make People More Vulnerable to Heat

fareinheit charlotte

A 2020 PLOS ONE study found that various commonly prescribed drugs interfere with the body’s ability to perceive and protect itself from heat, increasing the risk of hospitalization. These include diuretics, antipsychotics, beta-blockers, stimulants, antihypertensives and anticholinergic medications (which include Parkinson’s and bladder-control medications). Illicit use of amphetamines and some other drugs, including unlicensed weight-loss drugs such as dinitrophenol, can alter body temperature. Ultimately, some medications that can induce heat-related side effects are still necessary for treating certain conditions.

Experts recommend consulting with physicians about potentially adjusting doses or scheduling and alerting a health care provider if any irregular reactions occur as the weather warms. Additionally, people taking medications known to produce an anticholinergic effect should be aware of strategies to keep cool. These can include staying hydrated, carrying fans or ice packs and seeking shade or air-conditioning. Until more research results emerge, clinicians and their patients should discuss best options for prescriptions—and ways to prepare for hotter days.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that heat-related emergency room visits were substantially higher from May to September 2023 than in any year before. And now growing evidence suggests that people who rely on certain medications, notably including antipsychotics, may become especially vulnerable to heat-related illness and adverse side effects as temperatures climb. New research into psychiatric disorders has rapidly improved existing treatments and led to new strategies to reduce some of the adverse side effects; such steps include pairing antipsychotics with other medications. But responses to medications can still vary from person to person.

But maybe with the impact of the climate, it’s going to be more common,” she says.

“There are a lot of drugs out there that diminish our ability to radiate off heat and cool down,” says Adam Blumenberg, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. Emergency room visits for medication-related heat stress or illness, also known as drug-induced hyperthermia, are still relatively rare—but Blumenberg says this will likely change as heat waves and record-breaking temperatures continue to increase. China, in particular, witnessed multiple extreme weather events in 2023, which was also its hottest year on record.
